Latex Mattress FAQs:

Odors with natural latex? Almost all natural materials on earth have some unique odor about them, but latex contains no biological or chemical properties that would off gas fumes or strong odors. Unless you are quite sensitive to smells, you probably won't notice any in 100% natural latex mattresses. Synthetic latex, on the other hand, does tend to off gas toxic chemicals used in processing, such as sulfur, boric acid, plastics, or polyesters.

Latex vs. Memory Foam: With 100% natural latex mattresses, the room does not need to be 65 degrees or higher as with oil or poly based synthetics which can not hold warmth very well. 100% Natural latex is also firmer than memory foam, so there are fewer body impressions than memory foam. In fact, you'll likely not see body impressions in an all natural latex mattress for at least 8 years. Natural latex is naturally conforming to assure optimal orthopedic support in any sleep position. This helps your body alleviate high pressure areas that can cause you to toss and turn at night.

Will it support my back?   Does the Latex Bed contain a spring system?

The latex bed does not contain a spring system. The latex core is similar to synthetic foam beds, but is 100% natural and non-toxic, and is usually covered with organic cotton and organic wool. The firm properties of the latex core provide good support for your back while still maintaining comfort.

Is the Natural Latex the same as in latex gloves?

The latex used to make latex gloves and latex condoms consist of a closed cell structure. Having closed cells makes it impossible to wash out the protein based allergens. Latex used in latex mattresses is a foam with open cells and breathability that is washed several times to safely and naturally eliminate these proteins.

Main ingredients in the manufacturing of 100% Pure Natural Latex:

1. 90-95% natural rubber,
2. 2-3% zinc oxide,
3. 1-2% fatty acid soaps,
4. 1-2% sulphur, and
5. 1-2% sodium.

The last 4 items are necessary in the vulcanization, foaming, and curing process which is largely baked out. The finished core is then washed a minimum of 3 times. The finished product is approximately 99% natural rubber.
